Not Your Soldier: Conscientious Objection and Counter-Recruitment in Colombia and the US, Uris Hall G08, Cornell

The public is invited to attend a workshop featuring Paula Andrea Galeano Bermúdez, director of Colombia-based La Red Juvenil. “Not Your Soldier: Conscientious Objection and Counter-Recruitment in Colombia on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 from 2:30 – 4 pm in Uris Hall G08.

In this workshop, part of the Drop Beats not Bombs tour, presenters will break down definitions of conscientious objection: what does it mean, and who does it apply to? CO’s from both the US and Colombia will share their stories with students, and discuss the challenges that anti-war organizers face in the US and abroad. Local youth activists will share their counter-recruitment skills, and we hope to mutually inspire as we share the ways in which young activists are resisting military recruitment and wars around the world.

Thursday, Nov 20th: 7-9pm. Art in Action: Workshop, featuring performance by Detroit-based emcee and community activist INVINCIBLE. Join anti-militarism organizers from the US and Colombia to hear how they have harnessed their creativity and put it to use for the movement.
